News.com has this story on IBM’s WorkPad z50. According to the article, the WorkPad z50 will be able to use IBM’s new Microdrive, which is a matchbook-sized hard drive that fits into a small slot in the device and offers data capacities up to 340 MB.

Lucent Technologies said it has licensed Custom Netcenter from Netscape in a bid to develop an Internet portal for its wireless telephones and handheld personal organizers. Lucent’s new portal, named Zingo, will serve as an Internet start page for traveling professionals and a testing ground for wireless equipment providers

Quicksheet 4.0

Cutting Edge Software announced the release of Quicksheet 4.0, the spreadsheet for the Palm Computing line of handheld computers that uses HotSync technology to synchronize entire spreadsheets to or from Microsoft Excel. Among new features, Quicksheet 4.0 has added 18 new functions including expanded date and time support and table lookups which allow users to create spreadsheets that act like small databases.

Annasoft Systems announces the availability of the Jump Start v2.11 Platform Library Kit (PLK) for the Embedded Intel Architecture Family Development Kit (EIAFDK). The PLK is a complete board support package that enables PC-compatible hardware to run the Windows CE operating system off-the-shelf without adaptation, driver development, and MS-DOS.

Intel will introduce the road map for its next-generation StrongARM processor, which includes high-end chips running at 600MHz and processors requiring as little as a half watt of power. According to PC Week, the chips will support 29 operating systems, including Windows CE, JavaOS and EPOC32, now supported by StrongARM, and may add the PalmOS.

StrongARM handhelds

PC World has this story on Intel’s redesigned StrongArm embedded processor. The new processor , which is expected to be introduced next week, can achieve 600-MHz performance with a 32KB cache, while consuming only 0.5 watts of power.
