Microsoft is reportedly creating its own alternative to the MP3 digital music playback and recording standard. ZDNet says that Microsoft could announce its MS Audio 4.0 technology as soon as April 13 at Audisee99.

MBA, Inc., an Internet commerce firm, announced the availability of their free “Voila” dedicated web browser and “Paris” Internet Personal Assistant. MBA’s “Paris” is a personal assistant on the Internet. Data uploads are also available from Palm Computing connected organizers.

Oracle Corp. will preview their technology for delivering Web content to users of mobile devices, including GSM smart-phones, Windows CE devices and Palm organizers. The technology, code-named “Project Panama,” will allow Internet and mobile service providers to deliver personalized services directly to mobile devices without having to modify content for them. Project Panama is currently in pilot testing, and is being previewed at CeBit in Hanover, Germany, in Hall 1, booth 6a2. The product is expected to be generally available in the second half of this year.

PC Week reports that Sybase and Sun Microsystems announced they are getting together to extend Java-based data management to consumer and embedded devices. Personal Java and Embedded Java versions of Sun’s portable language will be available to write applications for Sybase’s UltraLite database.

New World Technologies announced the spin-off of its ESD division (Electronic Software Delivery), which has been incorporated as BrainDock Communications Inc. for distributing software titles across the Internet. BrainDock provides a full Internet commerce solution allowing software publishers to provide their titles to Internet retailers.
