InfoBeam allows a Palm III/V user to connect to the Skytel 2-way network and send/recieve queries for infromation using the AccessLink II pager and JP Systems Infobeam service. Along with BeamLink, this new software/service provides access to Palm VII-like features today, using the most extensive two-way network in the country.

Aether and 3Com

3Com Corporation and Aether Technologies announced a strategic alliance to help the design, development and deployment of wireless solutions for the Palm Computing platform. The two companies will work together to tightly couple Aether’s wireless data solutions and services with the family of Palm Computing connected organizers and the forthcoming Palm VII organizer, which enables real-time wireless access to mission-critical enterprise data and Internet-based information.

Books for Windows CE

Glassbook announced a product strategy to develop and market an electronic book (e-book) software system for the Internet. The Glassbook Reader software for notebook PCs, Windows CE devices include the ability to lend or borrow e-books, and the ability to read e-books containing color graphics and page layouts. The Glassbook e-commerce software enables publishers to easily re-target their titles to e-books and make them available via the Internet to distributors and booksellers.

Xircom enters H/PC market

Xircom announced its entry into the Windows CE-based handheld PC market with its CompactCard family of products. Xircom CompactCards provide access to data and applications on corporate networks, the Internet and other online resources, enabling IT professionals to adopt handheld and palm-size devices as business tools.

Pager Card for Palm III

PageMart Wireless introduced the Synapse Pager Card for the Palm III connected organizer. Developed by PageMart, Motorola and Palm Computing, the Synapse for the Palm III organizer will be available in June. The Synapse Pager Card, which has 2 MB of memory, can receive word messages up to 300 characters long and perform wireless scheduling updates.

OmniBrowse on Palm

OmniBrowse, Inc. announced the release of OmniBrowse for the Palm Computing Platform. The program is for users of the Synapse Pager Card from PageMart, a replacement memory card that adds paging capability to Palm Organizers. PageMart and OmniBrowse will jointly market the information services product and make it available to new and existing PageMart Synapse Pager Card customers at no charge.

InfoBeam available

JP Systems announced the availability of InfoBeam for Palm connected organizers. InfoBeam users can select a search topic and enter key search data on a Palm organizer as prompted by InfoBeam’s single-screen form. InfoBeam then links the infrared technologies on Palm III, Palm IIIx and Palm V organizers with Glenayre’s AccessLink II pagers.
