ThinAir Server for Lotus Domino

ThinAirApps LLC announced that the company is offering a public beta test of its ThinAir Server for Lotus Domino. The product will be commercially available in April 2000. ThinAir Server for Lotus Domino is client/server software that allows corporate users to access information from Lotus Domino, using a number of wireless devices. Wireless devices supported for the public beta include the Palm VII, the Palm III, Palm V and WAP-enabled cell phones. Support for Research in Motion Blackberry, and Windows CE devices will be available in the second quarter, 2000.

We just found one of the coolest sites around. While it’s not directly on subject, virtually all of our readers are gadget freaks and we just found RemoteCentral.com, a site dedicated to nothing but high-end remote controls. For all of us with DVD fetishes, collections of 30 remotes that we actually use each day, and enough disposable income to spend hundreds of dollars on silly plastic and electronic toys, this is one cool site. –DG

Palm sets IPO price

Here’s the press release from Palm on its IPO price. The press release notes that 3Com will hold 532 million shares, or approximately 94.8 percent, of Palm’s common stock.

PylonPro 2.6

Globalware Computing began shipping version 2.6 of PylonPro, which allows you to migrate Lotus Notes databases to Palm devices. Version 2.6 features enhancements to date book synchronization. It also offers multiple PC support, so you can synchronize both a home PC and an office PC with the Palm device.

Palm raised IPO price again

News.com reports that Palm raised its intitial public offering price to $38 a share, 20 percent higher than the previously announced $30-$32 range. The article also said that Motorola purchased 1.7 million shares and America Online and Nokia each purchased 2.1 million shares at the intital $38 price.

Pocket competition

PC World has this article on the upcoming Pocket PC devices. The article thinks that Windows CE’s market share might not improve because Pocket PC devices will compete against each other and not the Palm operating system.

iPaq to go handheld

ZDNet has this article on Compaq’s plans to extend its iPaq brand to handehld devices. According to the article, the first mobile iPaq will be a new Windows CE-based handheld due in the second quarter. The mobile version of iPaq may replace Compaq’s currnet Windows CE-based device, the Aero.

Socket demonstrates Bluetooth card

Socket Communications demonstrated a Bluetooth-compatible plug-in card for Pocket PCs and Handheld PCs powered by the Microsoft Windows CE operating system. Socket conducted technology demonstrations of the Personal Network Card, a fully integrated CompactFlash CF+ card that supports the Bluetooth short-range wireless interconnect standard for personal area networking.
