ThinAirApps announced the public beta version of ThinAir Server 1.1. ThinAir Server is a platform that enables secure access to information from a number of wireless devices. The full suite of ThinAir Server products includes ThinAir Server for Microsoft Exchange, ThinAir Server for IMAP, ThinAir Server for POP and ThinAir Server for Lotus Domino. A free 30-day evaluation of ThinAir Server 1.1 is currently available for download from the company’s Web site.

News.com says that executives from Palm, HP, RIM and IBM have been in New York over the past week to convince investors that the future is wireless. The report says that even Gateway will get into the PDA and phone markets.

Security gets a facial

Visionics Corporation introduced FaceIt for Pocket PC. FaceIt capabilities can be used to capture a facial image, extract the face, convert it into a unique digital code, called a faceprint, which is transmitted it to a server for authentication. By confirming the match, FaceIt ties the identity of the person to the actions being performed.

CNN reports that the ILOVEYOU virus has hit business and government computer systems in Asia, Europe and the United States. The virus copies itself to two critical system directories and adds triggers in the Windows registry. This ensures that it’s running every time the computer reboots.

Palm hits film festivals

Palm joins the film communities at the Cannes, Sundance, San Francisco International and Mill Valley Film Festivals by providing a way for festival attendees to find their way around the events and festivities. At the events, attendees may obtain the Palm-based guides in two different ways: they may visit any of the Palm brand kiosks on site for a wireless synchronization of the guides to their Palm handheld, or they may send and receive the guides by beaming to each other using the Palm infrared beaming feature.
