
PalmSource, Inc. introduced an enhanced software compatibility program designed to help the more than 22 million users of Palm Powered devices choose the software applications that can grow with their mobile computing needs. The enhanced program supports Palm OS 5 and includes marketing programs that will help developers promote their compatible software to buyers. One of the key benefits of the program is the Palm Powered Compatible Solution logo, which developers may display with their software to indicate Palm OS compatibility to software buyers. The Palm Powered Compatible Solution logo, which will be promoted by PalmSource and its partners, will help software buyers immediately recognize software that meets PalmSource compatibility standards. In addition, a listing of those applications that have met the stringent compatibility criteria will be available on the PalmSource Web site.

Karrier Communications announced IntelliGolf version 6.0 for Palm handhelds. IntelliGolf is golf scorecard software for handhelds. IntelliGolf v6.0 includes scoring, statistics, sidegame wagers, shot tracking, 14,000+ signature courses, and sharing of information between handhelds.

Air2Web and University of South Florida (USF) teamed together to provide wireless services to the university’s students, faculty, and staff. Only six months later, USF and the vendors using the MoBull messenger application (which utilizes Air2Web’s wireless platform) have recognized quantifiable returns on investment (ROI). In addition to providing notices of class, athletic, and other university information to students, MoBull messenger also informs students of vendor promotions for retail stores, restaurants, and entertainments centers in the area.

Palm Infocenter has an article on the recent controversy sparked when iambic registered the two new domain names DateBk4.com and DateBk5.com and directed them to its page for its calendar application, Action Names Datebook. The problem is, DateBk4 and DateBk5 are calendar applications made by Pimlico Software.
The article also posts a press statement made by iambic stating in part, “As a vendor of datebook software, iambic’s maintains that it has the right to purchase domains containing the generic key word ‘datebook’ (and the abbreviation ‘datebk’) which are not trademarked… Ethics and strong customer support have always been the cornerstone of iambic’s success.”

Purple Data Cables is now in production with a new adapter cable for Handspring Treo. The model number of the new cable is PLPTR-M9-6. Incipio technologies launched a new site called Freescreenprotectors.com. They’re giving away a one year supply of screen protectors for the vast majority of PDA devices and some smartphones on the market. The customer visits the site, locates the proper size, and orders. The customer pays for shipping and handling, but other than that, the first 12-pack is free.
