Palm, Inc. announced that it has won a MobileFocus Award for its Palm m515 color handheld. The award was announced just prior to MobileFocus 2002, the press event hosted by Pepcom on the eve of the CTIA Wireless show in Orlando. The second annual MobileFocus Awards, which honored the best products and services for mobile computing in 14 categories, named the Palm m515 handheld the winner in the Mobile Handheld Computer category.

Global Star Software has released All American Game Hunter for PDA. After approximately 2 weeks in production, shipments will begin to retail outlets across North America. All American Hunter brings the action of big game hunting to PDA devices.

Handspring, Inc. released a beta version of Treo Mail, its new wireless email service, available exclusively for Treo communicators. Treo Mail provides mobile, secure access to desktop email. This beta software is available today at the Handspring Web site.

Thales Navigation is working with Palm, Inc. and Palmtop Software to introduce a GPS solution for Palm handheld users that provides 12 hours of continuous use. The Magellan GPS Companion for the Palm m500 series is designed to provide accuracy to within three meters in Europe through WAAS and EGNOS compatibility.

CNET News.com reports Palm said it will replace older cradles for its m500 and m505 models to solve a problem that prevented some units from properly synchronizing to a PC. According to the article, reports of the problem cropped up shortly after the devices hit the market last spring.

Cutting Edge Software, Inc. announced the release of the latest version of its award-winning Quickoffice productivity suite for Palm OS handheld computers. The new version includes an upgrade in the Quickword word processor, including built-in custom font support and an integrated spell-checking engine and thesaurus. Other improvements to the new version focuses on improving the application suite

Palm Boulevard has a review of Spy Hunter for the Palm OS. According to the article, Pocket Express has done a nice job capturing the fun of the arcade game with their Palm OS version.

Palm Infocenter has a post that says according to a report from NPD Intelect, the number of software titles sold in retail last year was four times what it was the previous year. Over 900 thousand handheld applications were sold in U.S., while only about 225 thousand were sold in 2000. A startling 97% of the software was for the Palm platform. The best selling category was games, accounting for about 350 thousand software sales, about a third of the total.
