PowerBoards upgraded

We’ve completed an upgrade to the PowerBoards that should make them substantially faster. It also appears we’ve fixed the “Check Messages” bug, so you can now look at only the new messages you haven’t seen. This new version of software (WebCrossing 3.1 from WebCrossing, Inc.) has a load of new features that we expect to enable over the next few months. Virtmed, 3Com Ventures

VIRTMED announced that 3Com Ventures has selected the company as a handheld-related investment in the healthcare market. VIRTMED is an information services company focused on creating healthcare applications, both administrative and clinical. 3Com Ventures is 3Com Corporation’s business development group that invests in emerging technology companies.

Palm financial results

Palm, Inc. reported financial results for its third fiscal quarter, which ended February 25, 2000. Revenues increased to $272.3 million, a 116% increase over the $125.9 million in revenues Palm had for third quarter fiscal 1999. Excluding separation costs of $8.2 million in the current quarter and purchased in-process technology of $2.1 million in the prior year quarter, pro forma net income was $15.5 million, or $0.03 per share, an increase of 78 percent over pro forma net income of $8.7 million, or $0.02 per share for the third quarter of fiscal year 1999.

Z50 discontinued

News.com has this article on how IBM’s Z50 Workpad, which is based on Windows CE, has been discontinued. According to the article, the only Workpads left use the Palm OS. IBM is trying to sell thse to corporate buyers.

MiPad prototype

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates previewed a prototype device called the MiPad. PC World says that the device will let you use your voice to use voice to compose and send email messages, browse the Web, access a contact list, and dictate text.
