Wearable computing awareness

A developer of wearable computing, Xybernaut, and SCOTT eVEST LLC and Technology Enabled Clothing LLC announced a joint marketing and education agreement to promote public awareness of wearable computing technologies and apparel that work together fashionably and functionally. The agreement among Xybernaut Corporation, Technology Enabled Clothing (TEC) LLC, and SCOTTeVEST LLC was announced during the 7th annual International Conference on Wearable Computing (ICWC) at COMDEX Chicago.

Pocket Quicken for OS X beta

LandWare announced a new beta version of the Pocket Quicken conduit for OS X is now available. The new version, 2.01r2b3, fixes all known conduit issues. This release includes the following changes from the previous version: Conduit Settings interface is completely “Aqua-fied”; the act of changing the HotSync action (Synchronize or Do Nothing) no longer sets that action as the default, the Default button must now be used to permanently change this setting; and in HotSync Details for each account, the Last Sync Date now reports the correct year.

Handango announced an exclusive software alliance with Handspring to provide software to users of Handspring’s new Treo communicators and Visor handheld computers. Together, the companies launched two online Handango-powered Software Stores, one for businesses and one for individuals. The Handango-powered Software Store for individuals is accessible by clicking “Third-party Software” at ##Handspring.com/software##. The store features new and updated software lists, wireless applications, user reviews, best sellers, Handango Essentials, and other features to help users find the right applications. By clicking on the “Software” tab at Handspring.com/enterprise, enterprise customers can find applications for specific industries.

Air2Web acquires 2Roam

Air2Web announced the closing of its acquisition of 2Roam, a global wireless software and service provider. Under the terms of the agreement, Air2Web acquired 2Roam’s Wireless Solution, its customer base including marquee customers such as eBay, Best Western International, and Hoover’s, Inc., and retained its co-founder and Board Chairman Bryan Wargo.

New version of Quickoffice

Cutting Edge Software, Inc. announced the release of the latest version of its Quickoffice productivity suite for Palm OS handheld computers. The new version includes a major upgrade in the Quickword word processor, including built-in custom font support and an integrated spell-checking engine and thesaurus. Other improvements to the new version focuses on improving the application suite’s performance, such as the speed of opening files and better support for portable keyboards.
