Natara Software has released version 3.0 of its DayNotez software for Palm OS. DayNotez is a journaling application that is tailored to organize records of events and thoughts on a daily basis. This latest version features a an all new look with full 5-way navigation support, new icons, font styles, category tags and time tracking features.

Although it has already taken nearly four decades to get this far in building the Internet, some university researchers with the federal government’s blessing want to scrap all that and start over.

The idea may seem unthinkable, even absurd, but many believe a “clean slate” approach is the only way to truly address security, mobility and other challenges that have cropped up.

Sun Microsystems announced that it is acquiring the assets of SavaJe Technologies and will reveal further details at its JavaOne conference next month. SavaJe’s claim to fame is its Java-based embedded operating system, which was shown running in a mobile phone at JavaOne last May.

SavaJe touts its Java-based mobile phone OS as being built from the kernel up for Java, but not “Java on bare metal,” since a small multi-tasking, multi-threaded kernel manages the hardware resources and sits below the JVM.

The deal could potentially place Sun–whose Java technology resides in hundreds of millions of mobile phones already–squarely in competition with the major mobile phone OS players: Symbian, Windows Mobile, and Linux.

Cisco Systems in the summer of 2007 will begin shipping new third-generation wireless cards that add an additional connectivity option to its Integrated Services Router. The new cards, which can be purchased in either CDMA or GSM versions, are designed to work either as a backup to an existing land-line WAN or as the primary network connection in areas where land-line connections might not be available.

According to the company, the Integrated Services Router is designed to fail over to the 3G card in the event that the primary connection becomes unavailable. However, a company spokesperson said it’s also designed to be used by remote businesses and emergency workers or in areas where traditional high-speed wired connections aren’t available.

Apple said it won’t be shipping its next-generation operating system in June as planned, saying it had to divert resources from the project so that it could launch its highly anticipated iPhone on time.

The new shipment date for Mac OS X “Leopard” will be in October, the company said Thursday. The iPhone will make its debut in June as planned.
