According to the J.D. Power and Associates 2007 Wireless Regional Customer Satisfaction Index StudySM–Volume 1, T-Mobile USA is the only wireless carrier that ranks significantly above the industry average in all major dimensions measuring wireless customer satisfaction. For the fifth consecutive reporting period, T-Mobile USA also is the only wireless carrier to rank highest in overall customer satisfaction among wireless telephone users in all six regions surveyed by J.D. Power and Associates.

Santa Rosa is the latest iteration of Intel’s Centrino platform, and consists of core logic, networking and updated Merom CPUs, which will start arriving in laptop PCs in late spring.

The new chip set is the mobile version of Intel’s G965 core logic, with enhancements added for improved power management, particularly of the graphics core.

The networking side has been updated to include 802.11n support, although final ratification of the latest wireless networking standard isn’t expected until late in 2007.

The new chip set also supports an 800MHz front side bus, and will see the use of a new socket format, known as Socket P. Socket P is not backward-compatible with the current socket used in for the Core 2 Duo mobile line.

Mark/Space has released version 3.0.2 of Missing Sync, their popular MacPocket PC sync app. The latest version fixes a number of bugs, one significant: apparently, you don’t need to put the phone into “flight mode” to avoid the Pocket PC trying to establish a wireless data connection while connecting to your Mac, which would then cause the sync to hang.

A widespread system failure of Research In Motion’s network has left BlackBerry users in the Western Hemisphere without email on their handheld devices.

The problem, first reported on news site WNBC.com, is believed to have originated around 8 p.m. Eastern time Tuesday and has not yet been solved. Because the problem concerns the RIM BlackBerry network, all cellular carriers that support BlackBerry are affected. Microsoft made available a plug-in that allows its Windows Media Player to integrate more smoothly with the Firefox Web browser, a growing rival to Microsoft’s own Internet Explorer browser. With competitors like Adobe vying for Web developer mindshare, Microsoft may have to give an inch to open source in order to keep WMP strong.

Available via Port 25 as well as the Firefox add-on site, the plug-in is designed to support Windows 32-bit and 64-bit platforms, including Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista. It is also backwards compatible with the older 6.4 Windows Media Player.
