The Microsoft booth included a demonstration of the beta version of the Terminal Server client for Windows CE Handheld PC Professional Edition, which enables users of Handheld PC Pro devices to access full-functioning Windows applications when connected to the corporate network via Terminal Server Edition 4.0 or the TSE capabilities to be included in Windows 2000 Server.

Last week at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, Microsoft showed off a Windows CE device, to be manufactured by Casio and to ship next month, that can function as a portable player for MSAudio. According to Internet World, Microsoft is offering a MSAudio compression format as a replacement for MP3. Microsoft says MSAudio can deliver high-quality audio in a file half the size of a similar-quality MP3 clip.

America Online has plans to offer services to small gadgets that connect to the Internet. News.com says that this will eliminate the need personal computers and help the online giant reach more computer-phobic customers and will advance its reach in Europe.

Contributing Editor Frank McPherson reports from Spring Comdex ’99 that Windows CE played a small role in Microsoft Chairman and CEO Bill Gates’ keynote address. During the address, the use of a Vadem Clio, Terminal Server Client and wireless networking to administer a Windows 2000 server was demonstrated for the audience. Also, it was announced that Microsoft will provide a virtual private networking client in the next release of Windows CE for the corporate environment. This software will allow corporate users to connect to their company’s network using a local internet service provider. Microsoft says that their goal is to ship the next version of Windows CE by the end of the year.

PlusFactor Software announced the WeSync Communities Web site. The WeSync Web site will let users share calendar and contact data through your Palm organizer. WeSync will allow Windows 95, 98, and NT users to create, edit, and simultaneously view multiple calendars with their Palm organizers.
