Construction Data Collection

Intermec Technologies introduced its handheld Data Collection PC utilizing the Windows CE operating system. Products that will follow the 5020 in the Data Collection PC family will include pen input tablets designed for managerial and decision support applications, truck mount devices for forklift and in-vehicle applications, and stationary devices for manufacturing operations.

Ben Rosen is back

One of the industry’s most celebrated investors, Benjamin Rosen is now serving as acting CEO of Compaq. This comes after the resignation of CEO Eckhard Pfeiffer and CFO Earl Mason, although it is our understanding that it was not quite a resignation.

AvantGo source code

AvantGo has made the source code for their WebToGo client available for free at their Web site. Although the AvantGo client only runs under Windows, the source has been released so others might create alternate clients (like for Macintosh and Linux). Database for Mac

Semicolon Software announced the release of HanDBase Desktop for Macintosh, a Macintosh application that can create databases for use with HanDBase on the Palm handheld organizer. New or modified data from the Palm organizer can be transferred back to the Macintosh and re-imported into Mac applications for printing, collating, and archiving.

Excite sync

Excite and Starfish Software demonstrated a pre-release of the Excite Planner. Built on Starfish’s TrueSync Server Technology, the Excite Planner will allow users to synchronize their information with handheld devices and desktop organizers including 3Com Palm devices, Hewlett-Packard Windows CE devices, Lotus Organizer, and Lotus Notes.

Sega’s Dreamcast

Sega announced that its Dreamcast game system will debut on September 9 for $199. According to News.com, Dreamcast will be able to run games written for Microsoft’s Windows CE operating system.

Clik! education

Iomega announced a new education and awareness program for Clik! Mobile Drives and disks. Iomega will be conducting 800 product demonstrations in 38 major U.S. markets on four concurrent weekends starting April 16th and ending May 9th, in addition to national advertising and retail sales associate training.
