Fidelity previews products

Fidelity Investments previewed one of its products that help investors responsibly manage their portfolios in today’s dynamic investing environment. These offerings, which include Fidelity’s web-based Active Trader WebStation, InstantBroker wireless applications via the Palm VII organizer, and full natural language speech recognition through the company’s automated phone system, were unveiled at a press event held at the Hilton New York and Towers in New York City.

Eclipse, Westtek agreement

Eclipse International, Inc. announced that WESTTEK LLC, a Windows CE System Integrator and an industry leader in digital imaging software and embedded solutions, has been authorized as an advanCE Design Center. This agreement will enable the two organizations to join together to provide OEMs with Windows CE-based solutions utilizing Eclipse’s advanCE System Design Packages (SDP), and WESTTEK’s application experience.

Handheld growth

News.com reports that the handheld industry will continue to grow over the next five years. According to market research firm DataQuest, Microsoft and Palm Computing will continue to dominate the market with their respective Windows CE-based and Palm OS-based products.

Elan-104 for CE

Arcom Control Systems announced they have a new Windows CE product, the Elan-104. It is an embedded controller based on a 100MHz 486 with 16Mb of RAM and 8Mb of flash disk. The development kit for this product supports a wide range of device drivers as standard. The platform SDK for the Elan-104 is available for download, allowing all who currently use Visual C++ 6.0 and the CE toolkit for Visual C++ 6.0 to target the Elan-104.

Cassiopeia E-105 in July

Casio, Inc. announced a new CASSIOPEIA Palm-sized PC, model E-105. The CASSIOPEIA E-105 is a 32MB Multimedia player and is the second Windows CE operating system-based color release from Casio. The E-105 has a 240 x 320 screen that allows users to view movies, web browse and listen to music using various Windows CE-based software applications. The E-105 will be available in July at the suggested retail price of $599.

Wireless world

News.com has this article on the rollout of the Palm VII wireless device from Palm Computing. The article says that Palm users want expanded Internet access, according to research from Cahner’s In-Stat, which found that 62 percent of handheld users are interested in accessing the Web through these devices.

IntelliGolf for Palm VII

Karrier Communications announced IntelliGolf compatibility with the new Palm VII organizer. IntelliGolf is immediately available in two editions. The Par edition contains the “Scoring, Statistics and Sidegame” software that is compatible with all Palm organizers. The Birdie edition is a full “Scoring System”. It includes all of the Par’s features plus Palm-to-Windows conduit software for uploading round data to the golfer’s PC, Internet-based download access to thousands of worldwide golf courses, and Handicap approximation.
