Concept Kitchen cooks

Concept Kitchen today announced it has a vision to establish partnerships. Or something like that. Basically, they are introducing new accessories, software products, and deals (none of which are mentioned) sometime in the future. We do agree it was an excuse for a heck of a press release, though. We like these guys, so despite the overwhelming hype, we decided to pass along a paragraph from their press release: “Concept Kitchen today announced their strategic vision to establish a series of key partnerships and alliances designed to build a comprehensive relationship with handheld users encompassing accessories, software and online services. These alliances, to be announced beginning early next month, will establish Concept Kitchen as the leader in providing users of mobile devices such as Palm Computing and Windows CE handhelds with a full range of solutions to enhance their ownership experience of these highly personal devices.”

Abrams to Chemdex

Former Palm Computing honcho has resurfaced at Chemdex, according to this announcement from the e-commerce company. She’s due to be their COO. This is beginning to make a bit more sense. Chemdex has enormous potential as a vertical e-commerce player and is pre-IPO. This gives Abrams the chance to get pre-IPO stock as a key player in a company expected by many to get Amazonian valuations.

PCWorld on Palm VII

The editors at PCWorld clock-in with their review of the Palm VII. Here’s one interesting, good news comment they made: “In tests conducted in the Boston area, we obtained consistently trouble-free connections to the Palm.Net service indoors, outdoors, and in the car. “

Gadgeteer guts Palm VII

Robert Foster decided to open up his Palm VII and share the inner guts with the world. The Gadgeteer has some very interesting pictures. They’re not quite pin-up quality, but if you get your jollies from computer viscera, this is your moment in the sun.

Circling Jupiter

PCWorld is running a fine article on the Windows CE mini-notebook spec called Jupiter. According to the report, Japanese computer manufacturers are becoming cozy with this device form-factor. This probably means we’ll see more inexpensive notebooks in the future, including ones that may even double as Karaoke players.

ZD almost gets it

Sometimes the editors at ZD get it, sometimes they don’t. This time, they don’t. In this summary of the “Perfect PC”, which is really a lead-in to their e-commerce shopping program, they suggest that a Palm OS device might be the perfect handheld device, while a Windows CE device might make the perfect palm-sized device. As Jar-Jar Binks would say, “Uh efugsme? Dey be bot da same size? I no get it.” Fortunately, Jar-Jar stays out of our news page for weeks on end. But if you’re looking for a handheld device, check out Windows CE machines.

Still hot

It’s still hot out, but we’ve managed to keep everything up and running…although the machine room got to well above 90 for a period yesterday. In commemoration, David managed to go for a swim before going to work. Reports are it’s supposed to be cooler today, but again, if you can’t get in, think brown-out city and try again in a little while. Our power backup systems are pretty robust, so if we’re down, so’s a good portion of the Eastern Seaboard…but it could happen.
