Heather on vacation

For those of you curious about the apparent change in “voice” on the news page, it’s because News Editor Heather McDaniel’s on vacation and your esteemed (but slightly out of control) Editor-in-Chief is writing the news copy in her stead. Sometime next week, it should return to normal (so don’t send your complaint letters just yet).

Concept Kitchen cooks

Concept Kitchen today announced it has a vision to establish partnerships. Or something like that. Basically, they are introducing new accessories, software products, and deals (none of which are mentioned) sometime in the future. We do agree it was an excuse for a heck of a press release, though. We like these guys, so despite the overwhelming hype, we decided to pass along a paragraph from their press release: “Concept Kitchen today announced their strategic vision to establish a series of key partnerships and alliances designed to build a comprehensive relationship with handheld users encompassing accessories, software and online services. These alliances, to be announced beginning early next month, will establish Concept Kitchen as the leader in providing users of mobile devices such as Palm Computing and Windows CE handhelds with a full range of solutions to enhance their ownership experience of these highly personal devices.”

YA Palm VII review

In Yet Another Palm VII review, Computer Currents has run at the plucky device. Their opinion: “Well, I still love wireless e-mail. But I’m not wild about 3Com’s pricey service, the lack of email integration, or the limited Web surfing. And, oh yes, you can’t upgrade the VII’s modem or memory.”

eWorld redux?

ZDNet’s AnchorDesk has a handy survey on Apple as an ISP (thus far, a bizarre 74% think they should get back into the ISP business). With the rumors rampant that Apple’s going to announce becoming an ISP during this month’s MacWorld, we can’t help but think warm, damp, gooey thoughts about the old, doomed-from-the-start eWorld. And, for those with a real historical perspective, anyone miss the incredibly overpriced, but oh-so-exclusive AppleLink?

Wake up to a supermodel

It’s not every day we figure out how to link to a nearly full-size image of a supermodel (in this case, the rather fetching but not really our type Laetitia Casta–ok, we’d settle!) in our technology news headlines and still be on-topic. But thanks to a devious plan by YourDay.com, we did. The YourDay.com system is basically a calendar that works with PCs down to Palm devices. The differentiator is the waker-up is the lovely Laetitia. Here’s how they describe it: “Research results also determined YourDay.com’s use of a supermodel. In a survey conducted in April by SenseNet, Inc. and YourDay.com, over 90% of men polled found the idea of being woken up by a supermodel appealing.” Yeah, well, somehow we think the guys weren’t thinking of a computer. And, we feel politically correctly motivated to ask, what about the women?

Palm on the BBQ

Senior Technical Editor Claire Pieterek sent in this great cartoon. Just in case you’re not really ready for summer, this is the ideal tool for you. (Note that because of how the site we’re linking to does its URLs, we expect this cartoon to expire pretty soon, so if you’re reading this from the archives, it’ll probably be the wrong picture.)
