
The Washington Post has this article which talks about Windows CE. The article says that Microsoft hopes to put Windows CE in cell-phone-based assistants, digital cameras, game machines, automobile PCs (which access e-mail through a cellular phone), TV set-top boxes and a host of other electronics products.

News.com is reporting that WebTV Networks will unveil the next-generation of its WebTV Classic and Plus television set-top boxes this week. The next-generation WebTV products will be based on Windows CE.

The Macromedia User Conference. I almost miss it. Each year I’d go to show off our FileFlex database engine, visit with old friends, and stuff myself with incredible Mexican food. When we sold off FileFlex last year as part of our transformation from Component Software to ZATZ:Pure Internet Publishing, I was pretty convinced that, at least professionally, Macromedia and I would probably not cross paths again. Especially since we’ve now got good Mexican food right here in New Jersey (strange, but true). I might have been wrong. In this interesting article, InfoWorld tells us about a Flash (best known as a vector animation plug-in for your Web browser) demo running on a Palm V. Interesting. A rumor concerning the U.S. Postal Service is being circulated on Internet e-mail. The e-mail message claims that a “Congressman Schnell” has introduced “Bill 602P” to allow the federal government to impose a 5-cent surcharge on each e-mail message delivered over the Internet. Here’s the U.S. Postal Service’s response to this.

Socket Communications Inc. announced a joint marketing agreement with Bell Mobility of Canada to promote and distribute the Socket Digital Phone Card, a plug-in card that allows users to attach a digital data-capable cellular phone to a Windows CE-based PC Companion or to a Windows 9x/NT notebook.

Blueline Online announced ProjectNet 3.0. ProjectNet 3.0 is fully integrated with Microsoft Outlook, Palm computers and Windows CE devices. Its downloading feature lets users synchronize the ProjectNet Calendar and ProjectNet Tasks with Microsoft Outlook on whichever device that they are using.

WebTV president and co-founder Steve Perlman announced that he plans to step down as president at the end of month. Microsoft plans to replace the core WebTV operating software with the Windows CE system.

Windows Magazine reviews the RIM Inter@ctive Pager 950 and RIM’s Blackberry handheld with e-mail and PIM functionality. The Blackberry device competes primarily with handheld organizers.
