
3Com Corporation announced that a registration statement has been filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for the initial public offering of the common stock of its wholly-owned subsidiary, Palm Computing, Inc. In connection with the IPO, Palm Computing, Inc. intends to change its name to Palm, Inc.

Targus Group International announced an exclusive agreement with Think Outside. Under the terms of the agreement, Targus will be the exclusive distributor for Think Outside’s Stowaway Portable Keyboard for the Handspring Visor family of handheld computers. The products will be marketed under the brand “Targus Stowaway”. Think Outside will maintain a direct relationship with Palm Computing, who will market the keyboard for Palm devices.

Certicom announced a licensing agreement whereby Extended Systems Incorporated will use Certicom’s elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) technology to secure its XTNDConnect Server 2.3 product. XTNDConnect Server 2.3 provides synchronization of e-mail, contacts, calendar and tasks between multiple handheld devices, including Palm Computing and Windows CE, and Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes/Domino servers.

GroupServe launched the wireless Palm device version of its Web discussion service, GroupVine, Friday, while versions for Nokia Communicator, and Windows CE Pocket Internet Explorer will be available later this week.
