
We’ve been reading the Palm S-1 in our spare time and came across this interesting nugget: “For example, we recently had to modify the design of our Palm VII device as a result of our inability to obtain adequate supplies of the radio crystals that our original design required because of limited supply and unexpectedly high demand from cellular telephone manufacturers.”

CASIO Soft announced Bubblets and GolfPRO, the first games in its new “Fun To Go” line of gaming and entertainment products. Bubblets is a fast-paced puzzle game for Windows 98/95/NT PCs, and Palm OS and Windows CE mobile devices. It is CASIO Soft’s first retail release for the Palm OS and Windows PC markets. Golf PRO is a Windows CE-based game that will ship with a single golf course. It will have up to 10 add-on courses available during the year.

Motorola announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Palm Computing. Under the terms of the MOU, Motorola expects to license the Palm operating system for use in Motorola products. Additionally, Motorola has taken a minority equity stake in Palm Computing.

MarWare has begun shipping its new C.E.O. leather trifold cases. The cases feature two paper pads, credit card, cash and ID pockets, a pen holder and velcro attachment for the handheld device. The C.E.O. fits the majority of the palm-size PCs that are currently available. A list can be found at MarWare’s Web site.

Citrix Systems announced a new release of its Independent Computing Architecture (ICA) client for the Microsoft Windows CE operating system that supports small, pen-based PCs and other wireless palm-size devices. The new ICA release includes “Virtual Screen Control,” a server-based computing feature that allows you to navigate application displays designed for larger desktop screens.

The Salutation Consortium, a non-profit corporation focused on providing technologies that improve information exchange among multiple and different devices, announced the addition of six new members. Two of the new members, MicroBurst and TRG Products, will develop offerings for the Consortium on PalmOS and Windows CE. Microburst will have products available in early 2000 and TRG will have availability in mid-2000.

NS BASIC Corporation and DevSoft announced that Devsoft’s IP*Works set of internet tools have been added to NS BASIC’s Big Red Toolbox. The Big Red Toolbox is a collection of free add ons for NS Basic/CE programs. IP*Works is a collection of ActiveX Controls that allows NS Basic/CE programs to do internet functions. There are 22 controls, including FTP, Telnet, NNTP, SMTP and HTTP.
