Yahoo has an article stating that the Federal Communications Commission, which earlier this week approved new wireless handhelds from Palm and Handspring, has now set aside its ruling. According the article, the grants are now both listed as pending applications.

CNET News.com reports Palm’s upcoming wireless handheld has moved closer to launch after the company received regulatory approval Monday for the device, which Palm is calling the i705.

Highlighting field and general business productivity benefits from its handheld computing solutions, Palm, Inc. is playing a major role at the eighth annual Customer Relationship Management (CRM) conference and exposition, sponsored by DCI, at the Jacob K. Javits Center, August 29 and 30. Palm CEO Carl Yankowski is delivering the keynote address, and Palm is featuring current solutions–and previewing new solutions–in its booth in the expo hall.
Titled “Handheld Computing: Bold New Platform for 24×7 Competitive Advantage,” Yankowski’s keynote will address how field service organizations can cut costs using handheld solutions and how Palm handhelds can help field sales teams increase their productivity and effectiveness. Yankowski will be showcasing current Palm customer applications.

CNET News.com reports Handspring received regulatory approval for two handhelds that combine cell phone, Web browsing, and traditional organizer functions. Interestingly, one of the units has a built-in keyboard similar to Research In Motion’s BlackBerry email pager. The other unit uses the Grafitti handwriting-recognition program and software keyboard.

PalmBasket Inc. announced the immediate general availability of PalmBasket Open, their personal shopping system for Palm handheld users. PalmBasket Open software is designed to introduce handheld computing technology into the grocery shopping experience without forcing shoppers out of the aisles and into cyber stores. PalmBasket Open is the consumer version of the PalmBasket Shopping System and works on any Palm OS device running Palm OS version 3.0. It allows shoppers to record and manipulate their personal shopping information on a personal Palm handheld. It can also be used in conjunction with the PalmBasket Shopping System designed for retail grocery stores. The shopper can beam the information from their personal unit to the PalmBasket unit in the store.
