CNET News.com has an article on Palm’s naming of a new president of its hardware unit. According to the article, this “is likely a sign that the handheld maker is getting closer to formally separating that division from its operating system group.”

Bradley named president

Palm, Inc. announced that its board of directors has named Todd Bradley as president, Palm Solutions Group. He retains his role as the group’s chief operating officer. As head of the Solutions Group, Bradley is in charge of the company’s handheld computer hardware; software, such as enterprise email software; and add-ons, such as keyboards and SD Card and MultiMediaCard expansion cards. The group targets consumers, mobile professionals, and enterprises.

FedEx uses Viafone OneBridge

ViaFone, Inc. announced that FedEx Corp. has begun using its ViaFone OneBridge solution to support FedEx applications that give customers the ability to track package status, access drop-off location information, and email tracking results via most wireless devices. ViaFone’s mobile solution gives FedEx the ability to continue offering customers wireless access to shipping information from more than 50 types of wireless handheld devices, including Web-enabled phones, two-way pagers, and PDAs.
