The Pen&Internet division of Parascript announced wireless connectivity for its riteMail application on Palm OS products. riteMail now takes advantage of all wireless connection methods for Palm OS based products, whether through wireless modems, Palm OS smartphones, 802.11 access points, or data transfer between Bluetooth-enabled Palm OS products and Bluetooth-enabled phones or desktops.

MARGI Systems announced a Presenter-to-Go SD Card-based solution for Palm handhelds that feature the Palm Expansion Slot. Available in June 2002, Presenter-to-Go will offer Palm m125, m130, m500, m505, m515, and i705 handheld users a complete solution for the delivery of high-quality color presentations, allowing presentations created in PowerPoint or any printable Windows application to be transferred directly to their Palm handhelds and displayed at 1024 x 768 resolution.

Palm Digital Media announced the Palm eBook Studio authoring tool and licensing options, which allow individuals, businesses, publishing companies, and online retailers to create, distribute, and sell Palm Reader ebooks. Palm Digital Media, the leading publisher and distributor of ebooks for handheld computers, is a business unit of PalmSource, Inc., the Palm OS subsidiary of Palm, Inc.

HandWatch announced PalmRAMDisk. PalmRAMDisk is a virtual disk device that simulates a memory card that resides on main memory.

Fictionwise.com announced that it has released two ebooks, Spider-Man by Peter David and Star Wars: The New Jedi Order: Recovery by Troy Denning, with a 100% rebate promotion (when using a credit card to purchase). The ebooks–both published by Random House, Inc.–are available in Secure Mobipocket format, which can be read on PCs and almost all PDAs.

Palm announced the Palm m500 and m505 handheld computers are the first handheld Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) to be certified as free from any possibility of igniting flammables that may be present in petro-chemical environments. The two Palm handheld models, which were certified by Underwriter Laboratory, will be labeled with an electrical-classification rating for Class 1, Division II Groups A, B, C, D environments, which include most refineries, chemical plants, and other industrial facilities.

Palm Infocenter reports that in March, Sony’s handhelds outsold Handspring’s for the first time in U.S. retail stores, according to NPDTechworld. The article also notes that “Palm Inc.’s share of the retail market had a big jump, moving from 45.7% in February to 54.3% in March.”

CNET News.com reports Handspring is trimming the prices of its existing handheld computers and preparing to introduce a new device, just as the handheld maker has been losing market share. According to the article, the cuts put all of Handspring’s Visor devices at less than $200. The article also says Handspring is expected to debut the $300 Treo 90, “a device similar in appearance to its Treo 180 combination cell phone and handheld, but without the wireless modem, according to sources.”

Palm Infocenter reports Portsmith plans to introduce a device that allows users to make PowerPoint presentations with their Palm handhelds. According to the article, it will be a clip-on peripheral that use Palm’s Universal Connector.

In the first published study evaluating the clinical impact of handheld drug reference guides, researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, demonstrated that ePocrates Rx may help doctors reduce the incidence of medication errors. The Harvard study follows a widely publicized report by the Institute of Medicine that medication errors cause thousands of deaths each year.
