Palm Reader Pro awarded

Palm Digital Media, Inc. announced that Palm Reader Pro was named Best eBook Reader at the Pocket PC Awards 2002 ceremony held at the Pocket PC Summit in Hollywood Oct. 23. The Pocket PC Awards are organized every year by Pocket PC magazine to honor the Best Pocket PC products. This year 436 software titles from 57 categories were nominated for the awards. Out of those, 158 were selected as finalists, and 57 emerged as winners. The finalists and winners were selected by a board of experts, which comprised some of the most respected and knowledgeable people in the Pocket PC community.

Sprint backs off from Handspring

CNET News.com reports that when Sprint introduced the Digital Link last year, it said that the device, which turns a Handspring Visor into a cell phone, would be upgradable to the carrier’s new network. According to the article, though, Sprint’s new network is now up and running, but the carrier has decided not to develop the necessary software upgrade to allow the Digital Link to take advantage of the always-on, higher-speed network.

Mobility Electronics, Inc. announced that its Cutting Edge Software subsidiary has released Mobilefile, a new application that enables anywhere, anytime access to files, loading, and removal of applications, and retrieval of editable documents stored on PCs.

SPUG hosts OS 5 demo

The Stanford PalmPilot User Group meets at 7 pm on the first Tuesday of each month; the next meeting will be on November 5, Election Day. The Guest of Honor will be Bryan Lam of Texas Instruments, who will be demonstrating Palm OS 5 running on the Texas Instruments Innovator ARM handheld development board.

Port Win DLLs to the Palm handheld

IBM has an article about using Perl to Port Win DLLs to the Palm handheld. The article introduces you to an interesting technique that makes the process easier by using Perl. It demonstrates a Perl script that analyzes existing C source code and automatically generates many of the source files required for porting. You should be able to use the code outlined in the article to help with your own porting projects.

Master Thief launched

Master Thief, a new game for Palm OS device users, has been launched by Cascata Limited. The adventure game is available in either grayscale or color on Palm OS 3.3 and Palm OS 4.x. A modified version for the Palm Tungsten T handheld and other Palm OS 5 based devices running on the ARM processor family will be subsequently released.
