
Karrier Communications announced the shipment of its first offering into the Symbian OS smartphone market, namely IntelliGolf for the Sony Ericsson P800. The IntelliGolf for the P800 software automates on-course golf scoring, presents performance graphs and statistics in color, and includes wireless access to an international scorecard database. With over 17,000 signature courses, users can access their favorite course wirelessly using a P800 smartphone. This avoids the manual entry of hole yardages, par ratings, and hole handicaps values.

Handspring, Inc. announced the availability of the Treo 270 in Brazil. The Treo 270 is a combination mobile phone, Palm OS-based organizer and wireless messaging, email, and Web browsing device. Handspring has entered into a sales distribution relationship with Alldix, one of Brazil’s leading distributors of data communications devices to make the Treo 270 available to customers nationwide.

Laridian, Inc. announced the release of a new version of its MyBible software for Palm Powered handhelds. MyBible gives users access to the entire Bible with features that let them go directly to any verse, search the Bible text by word or phrase, and bookmark passages for easy return. Version 3.0 lets users “personalize” the Bible text by attaching a note to any verse with their own comments or highlighting Bible text in a variety of colors. Also new to Version 3.0 is the option to view the words of Christ in red and support for high resolution screens.

DreamQuest Software announced its newest game, Championship Cribbage Pro. The cross-platform card game allows gamers to play on and against a variety of devices including Windows PCs, Palm OS and Pocket PC handhelds, and Symbian OS cell phones.

Datastick Systems, Inc. revealed its plans to offer data acquisition modules for the new Meazura ruggedized Palm Powered handheld that was announced by PalmSource and Aceeca Limited Corporation of New Zealand at the PalmSource Developer Conference in San Mateo.

Mobility Electronics, Inc. reported financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2003. Revenue was approximately $12.0 million in the first quarter of 2003, an increase of 73% over revenue of $6.9 million in the first quarter of 2002, and an increase of 16% over revenue of $10.3 million in the fourth quarter of 2002. Net loss for the first quarter of 2003 was $1.1 million, compared with a net loss of $2.3 million, before the cumulative effect of a change in accounting principle, in the same period of the prior year. The net loss in the first quarter of 2002 was adjusted retroactively to include a non-cash transition charge in the amount of $5.6 million pursuant to the adoption of Statement of Financial Accounting Standards No. 142, “Goodwill and Other Intangible Assets.” Net loss per diluted share was ($0.07) for the first quarter of 2003, compared with net loss per diluted share of ($0.15) for the first quarter of 2002, also before the cumulative effect of a change in accounting principle. =20

Frank Aalbers has released an infrared multiplayer real-time strategy game called Palm Wars, and he’s currently looking for beta-testers. He says it’s stable and fast on a Palm IIIc and a Palm m100.

Remember the Palm m505? The slightly lighter m515 replaced it with a brighter screen and twice the memory, but they both have the same beautifully slim case. Not everyone was happy with the m515’s unlighted Graffiti area or its always-on backlit screen, harder to read in bright light than the m505’s transreflective screen. The Palm store has re-listed the m505 at $249, smack dab between the m130 at $199 and m515 and Zire 71 at $299.

Electric Pocket Limited announced the global launch of Pixer MMS for Palm OS, a standard’s compliant multi-media messaging service (MMS) solution for Palm Powered handhelds. Pixer MMS is shipping in the Asia/Pacific region with Palm Tungsten W handhelds and is the first MMS solution for the Palm OS platform. Pixer MMS for Palm OS enables Tungsten W handheld users who subscribe to multi-media messaging services to send and receive MMS messages. In addition, users of other Palm OS 3.5+ handhelds and smartphones can send picture messages and handwritten notes directly from their device via MMS.

PalmSource Inc. announced that privately held Tapwave Inc. has licensed Palm OS. Tapwave unveiled its plans to deliver a new category of Palm Powered mobile entertainment gear aimed at technology enthusiasts who want to manage their lifestyles and play, while on the go.
