
Internet Week has this story on the release of Windows CE 3.0, which could ship by early next year. Accoriding to the article, Microsoft is improving remote access services and data synchronization, and providing an updated programming tool called Platform Builder 2.12.

Microsoft announced at PC Expo plans for a wireless communications kit for the Microsoft Windows CE operating system-based palm-sized PCs (P/PCs). By integrating palm-sized PCs with data-capable digital cellular phones, the kit will enable customers to access their e-mail, browse rich Internet content, and synchronize personal information manager (PIM) information along with content and information services from AvantGo, all on their P/PC. Microsoft plans to work with Socket Communications on the integration of Socket Digital Phone Cards for streamlining the attachment of digital cellular telephones to P/PCs.

Palm Computing and AOL have teamed up to provide email on the Palm Computing platform. This will allow AOL members to send and receive mail through their AOL accounts from 3Com’s Palm organizers. 3Com will bundle AOL’s new software in the retail packages of selected Palm Computing organizers and PalmModem accessories.

News.com has an interview with Palm Computing President Robin Abrams from the PC Expo in New York. In the discussion, Abrams says that Palm Computing will focus on software, wireless technology, and licensing plans for the remainder of 1999.

Diamond Entertainment introduced its PD-500C palm-sized PC with Windows CE. The PD-500C’s features include a Digital Still Camera, a MP3 Player, Windows CE and a Color TFT LCD Touch Screen. This product is set to launch in early fall of 1999.

Adaptec’s SlimSCSI 1460 host adapter enables handheld PCs to connect to removable, magneto-optical or hard drives. SCSI CD-ROM support will be added in late summer. SlimSCSI can be used with operating sytems including Windows 95/98, Win NT, DOS, OS/2, and, Windows CE.

LandWare announced the much anticipated GoType Pro keyboard for the Palm V and IBM c3 connected organizers. GoType Pro will be demonstrated at PC Expo in New York. Retail delivery is expected in late-July.
