Purple Software Limited announces the release of GeoMaster for the Palm OS. GeoMaster was conceived to provide Palm handheld device users with a set of data for world travel. Some features include a scrollable world map with multi-level zoom and customizable display options, and, information on approximately 1000 countries and cities – with ability to edit and add cities. GeoMaster is available in June via electronic download from New World Technologies.

Wired News has this item of interest from Microsoft’s antitrust trial. Apparently, Gordon Eubanks, the former head of Symantec and Microsoft witness, held up a Palm computer and showed it to the judge overseeing the Microsoft antitrust trial.

Microsoft has been busy making all sorts of deals in the past week. Here’s a recap from InfoWorld in case you missed something.

PC World reports that Microsoft has plans to bring Windows NT to handheld devices. The article says that the device would be ready in two to three years, will run NT, weigh 2 to 3 pounds, and provide up to 256MB of memory, approximately 1GB of storage, and an improved screen resolution.

3Com Corporation and Aether Technologies announced the formation of a new company, OpenSky, that will hasten the arrival of wireless e-mail and Internet access to corporations and consumers. OpenSky will deliver next-generation wireless data services that allow users to access their primary e-mail address, extract critical information from the Internet and corporate intranets, and share their schedules remotely through any Palm Computing platform device, Windows CE device, pager or WAP (wireless application protocol)-enabled phone.

AvantGo today announced that it has secured third round equity investments totaling $14.7 million from Microsoft and 3Com, investment management firm Fayez Sarofim & Co., which led the round, and venture capital firms 21st Century Internet Venture Partners, H&Q Venture Associates and Adobe Ventures. The company also announced that Gregory Waldorf was selected by the new investors to serve on AvantGo’s Board of Directors, effective immediately.
