NeoStation 2300

Neoware Systems announced new versions of Windows CE-based NeoStation 2300. Neoware’s NeoStation Series is a line of thin-client terminals that allow users to access applications running on multi-user Windows NT servers, as well as mainframes, minicomputers and the Internet. Neoware’s new Windows CE-based terminals incorporate version 3.0 of Neoware’s Windows-based terminal software featuring Microsoft’s Windows CE operating system.

CASIO Soft Project 2.0

CASIO Soft announced CASIO Soft Project 2.0, which will let users import and export Microsoft Project-compatible project schedules directly on handheld or Palm-sized PCs. USB for CE

Inside Out Networks announced the availability of the company’s USB products for Microsoft Windows CE operating system. Inside Out Networks USB connectivity products also support Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0 (Client, Server and embedded versions) and Mac OS 8.5 operating systems. Inside Out Networks new Windows CE platform targets manufacturers of personal digital assistants (PDAs) and vertically oriented desktops and portables.

New CompactFlash card

AmbiCom announced the new high-speed AMB8610 Power Saver 10 Mbps Ethernet CompactFlash Card for Windows CE. It delivers low power consumption, 10 million bits per second data transfer rates, and the flexibility to be used on Palm-sized PCs (P/PC), Handheld PCs (H/PC) as well as Laptop PCs. The AMB8610 draws only 19 mA (milli-amps) from a Palm-size PC compared to almost 300mA for other Ethernet PC Cards.

BSQUARE to provide services

BSQUARE Corporation announced today that it will provide National Semiconductor with software development services in conjunction with the development of reference designs for Windows CE-based information appliances. These reference designs, based on the National Geode family of integrated processors, will serve as development starter platforms for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to use when developing intelligent computing devices.

Web appliance

Mainbrace Corporation will be showing off its cordless Windows CE-based Web appliance at COMDEX. The new web appliance provides access to consumer Web-based services like Web shopping, email and online trading. Mainbrace’s Web appliance uses a wireless Ethernet connection to communicate with a cordless modem base station, which connects directly to an Internet service provider (ISP) or to an ISP through a personal computer.

Microsoft, Extended partnership

Microsoft and Extended Systems announced they will work together in a number of areas, including joint marketing and distribution efforts as well as technical collaboration for future products. Mobile professionals will now have direct access to their data through Extended Systems’ XTNDConnect Server, which provides secure data access directly to Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Notes/Domino Servers and ODBC-compliant databases.

Everex abandons CE

Everex is dropping its plans for the Freestyle 540, a color-screen device announced last March. News.com says that the company is discontinuing the monochrome palm-sized devices it introduced last year.
