There’s an article on CNET from Bloomberg News saying handheld manufacturers already foresee trouble filling orders this holiday season because of the ongoing parts shortage. According to the article, because electronic organizers have become more popular than expected, the shortages could persist through 2001 and threaten the widespread acceptance of the devices.

SyncML Version 1.0 Alpha

SyncML, the initiative sponsored by mobile technology industry leaders Ericsson, IBM, Lotus, Matsushita, Motorola, Nokia, Psion, Palm, Inc. and Starfish Software, announced SyncML Version 1.0 Alpha, a release candidate, is now available to SyncML Supporters in addition to new updates to the SyncML Reference Toolkit which was made available to Supporters in May. Competition springs on Palm

Fortune has an article that says for the first time, Palm faces some really formidable competition, but it’s from Handspring, not Microsoft. The article ponders whether Palm was wise to license its OS to a competitor in the first place but says the company is fighting back with the release of the Palm m100.

Preorder CLIE

According to an article at CNET News.com, Sony’s CLIE handheld is available for preorder from the Sony Web site for $399 and will be available nationwide in September. The article also clears up another mystery by revealing CLIE, which stands for Communication Link Information Entertainment, is pronounced klee-ay.
