
There’s an article on CNET from Bloomberg News saying handheld manufacturers already foresee trouble filling orders this holiday season because of the ongoing parts shortage. According to the article, because electronic organizers have become more popular than expected, the shortages could persist through 2001 and threaten the widespread acceptance of the devices.

Roger Ebert has a commentary on ZDNet criticizing the use of cell phones and handheld devices, saying we’re so busy worshiping devices, we haven’t even noticed that they’re ruling our lives. According to the film critic, cell phones “are a leash–a sign that other people have us on 24-hour call, like a dog. Handhelds are the most enslaving, since they have us yanking our own leashes.”

CNET also has a review of the Sony CLIE. They give it their Editor’s Choice award, liking both the jog dial and the Memory Stick expansion slot. They also liked the fact that Sony throws an 8MB Memory Stick in its package as well as a small travel charger.

CNET News.com has a commentary on Sony’s new CLIE PDA saying it’s a harbinger of good things to come. The writer believes it’s likely that Sony rushed this product to market to get in before the Christmas selling season and will likely follow this model with a more polished version sometime next year.
