According to the review, TapType provides single tap access to commonly used characters and character combinations that are arranged by speech and ergonomics. The reviewer was impressed that the software was bug-free and was satisfied with the overall durability.

Handspring distributes in Canada

Handspring announced Canadian retail distribution for the Visor. Handspring started shipping to Canadian customers via orders from its Web site, and the company has now entered into agreements with Canadian retailers Future Shop and The Business Depot Ltd. According to the press release, all outlets will sell Visor and Visor Deluxe edition handhelds for estimated retail prices of $279 and $379 Canadian, respectively, along with a variety of Springboard expansion modules and Visor accessories.

iPAQ confers with 1998 Beetle

BrightHand.com has a story about a 1998 Beetle’s Windows CE powered AutoPC system that communicates with the driver’s iPAQ. The article describes the many things the iPAQ can do in conjunction with the AutoPC, such as transferring contacts and address information and swapping MP3s. It even lets the driver lock the doors using a voice command.

Palm device causes mistrial

The Register has an article about two convicted Las Vegas murderers who may get a retrial because one of the jurors allegedly read press reports of the case on the Web using her Palm device. According to the article, defence lawyers plan to subpoena the jury in order to confirm the claims.

Sony handheld review

The Singapore Palm Users’ Group has a generally positive review of Sony’s Palm OS-based PDAs called PEG-S500C and PEG-S300. The article discusses the size, cradle design, the memory sticks, and some of the available applications. It’s due to be on sale in Japan on September 8 with a Japanese OS and should be available in an English version in the United States before Christmas.

Forbes.com announced that it has signed an agreement with AvantGo, Inc. to deliver Forbes.com’s editorial content to mobile devices. Users of Palm OS and Windows CE-based handheld devices will now have access to Forbes.com’s news coverage and analysis of business and technology.

Microsoft’s Internet cell phones

ZDNet reports that Microsoft has produced specs for two Internet cell phones. One is a feature phone that will offer a barebones Internet viewing experience, and the other is a smart phone that will try to merge a PDA with an Internet cell phone. According to the article, analysts believe the simpler feature phone will be more popular with consumers as it’ll be more affordable.

OpenAir logs time and expenses

Yahoo has another press release, this time from OpenAir.com announcing the availability of OpenAir for the Palm Computing platform. The program enables OpenAir.com users to log time and expenses in Time Sheets and Expense Reports and create Time Bills while disconnected from the Web and the OpenAir.com Web site.

Liberty distribution rights

Yahoo has a press release from PalmGear.com announcing that it has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Gambit Studios to distribute the Liberty GameBoy emulator. Liberty enables users to play GameBoy games on handheld computing devices utilizing the Palm OS. Michael Ethetton, President and CEO of Gambit Studios, LLC says, “We chose PalmGear.com to be the exclusive distributor for Liberty because of their significant presence in the Palm OS market.”
