DataViz to support PDF format

DataViz, Inc. announced they will be supporting Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files in a future version of their Documents To Go product. A date for the release has not yet been officially announced, but its future support for Adobe PDF should give users the ability to store and view PDF-based information.

Sony handheld consequences

ZDNet has an article on Sony’s new handheld device saying it could have both good and bad consequences for consumers. On the one hand, a new device adds features and drives competition, but on the other, it tightens an already thin supply of devices due to component shortages.

Sharp and Casio’s phone plans

The Register has an article on Sharp and Casio’s plans to create PDAs with built-in cellphones aimed at the European mobile data market. According to the article, Casio plans to show a working prototype at next February’s CeBIT show in Hannover. It will be part of Casio’s Windows CE PDA line.

Visual CE enhanced

SYWARE Inc. announced that it has enhanced its database development software, Visual CE for the Pocket PC, to support Symbol Technologies PPT 2700 Pocket PC with integrated bar code scanner. According to the press release, the combined solution allows organizations with limited resources to develop databases for a variety of scanning tasks.

Adobe and AvantGo alliance

Adobe Systems Incorporated and AvantGo, Inc. announced an alliance that will help further extend Adobe GoLive 5.0 software into the arena of mobile Internet applications. AvantGo is developing an extension to Adobe GoLive 5.0 that will make it easier for Web developers to build AvantGo channels for PDAs and Internet-enabled phones.

Trojan horse attacks devices

ZDNet has a report on the Trojan horse program currently circulating and threatening to wipe out data from Palm devices infected with it. According to the ariticle, the program appears to be a crack for the Game Boy emulator Liberty 1.1 but is actually a testing utility created by Swedish Palm developer Aaron Ardiri.
