ViaXML for Palm OS

Odyssey Software shipped ViaXML for Palm OS, enabling direct access to enterprise data from the Palm OS platform via open standard XML-based mobile Web services technology. ViaXML supports both online and disconnected applications over virtually any IP-based network, including Wireless LAN standards such as 802.11b, Wireless WAN networks such as CDPD, GSM, GPRS, and Palm.Net, as well as direct dial-up and cradle connections.

SurveySolutions In Hand

Perseus Development Corporation announced a new survey application for Palm OS handheld computers. SurveySolutions In Hand allows for the creation of surveys that can be deployed on a handheld computer, eliminating the need for paper-based surveys. Once the surveys are completed, the survey administrator can compile and analyze the results and display them in tables or graphs. SurveySolutions In Hand can be distributed at conferences and training forums to Palm handheld users, for attendees to complete satisfaction and feedback surveys.

ActiveECG cardiac monitor

Active Corporation announced ActiveECG, a handheld, professional cardiac monitor which can be used with Palm handheld computers. ActiveECG provides real-time display of ECG data and recording of ECG “strips” on a Palm OS handheld. ECG strips can be stored, reviewed, and printed on any compatible PC, or transmitted to other computers.

HanDBase in medicine

DDH Software has launched a program to offer HanDBase solutions that have been created by and for medical professionals. The company has teamed with several healthcare industry professionals who have developed various HanDBase applications for their own use and have expressed an interest in making these tools widely available to medical professionals around the world. HanDBase Data Exchange

DDH Software unveiled its new HanDBase Data Exchange. HanDBase Data Exchange is designed to enable HanDBase users to integrate their handheld databases with Microsoft Access on desktop PCs and ODBC compatible software applications (e.g., FileMaker Pro, Oracle, My SQL, etc.) on corporate networks.

UPS network management

Tripp Lite’s PowerAlert Software, a UPS network management application with wireless capability, has passed the compatibility and utility testing processes offered by Palm, Inc. PowerAlert Software allows users to monitor and manage UPS systems from any manufacturer, directly or over a network. It is commonly used by IT managers to control a multitude of UPS systems from a central location. During extended power outages, PowerAlert can monitor UPS systems’ battery charge and instruct computers to save their open files and shut themselves down gracefully if battery reserves are low. PowerAlert can also alert technicians to power problems via pager or email.

Handspring rebate trouble

CNET News.com reports that due to miscommunication about certain rebate conditions, Handspring’s first rebate program, offering $50 off its Visor Deluxe and Visor Platinum models, has left new Visor owners temporarily empty-handed.
