
CNET News.com reports Handspring said in a weekly email newsletter that it will raise the price of the Treo from $549 to $599 for consumers who buy the device and want to use a pre-existing cell phone service contract.

Rococo Software announced an Early Adopter Program for Impronto Developer Kit, a standards-based Java tool for developing Bluetooth applications. To kick-off the program, Rococo is demonstrating Impronto DK, Palm OS Edition at JavaOne with a Palm OS-based instant messenger.

Maximum PDA has a review of Astraware’s Palm OS implementations of Pop Cap games. The review focuses on three titles: Mars Needs Cows, Alchemy, and Bejeweled. According to the reviewer, “All three were quick to learn, interesting games that were easy to pick up and play when there was a little time to kill.”

Yahoo has a ZDNet News saying Palm may be on the way back to profitability, but it has serious challenges ahead as wireless convergence looms. According to the article, a report from Denmark-based analyst firm Strand Consult predicts that Palm and Handspring will be caught between the financial clout of Microsoft and the entrenched distribution networks of mobile phone manufacturers, once the focus in the PDA market shifts to wireless-enabled devices.

Sprint announced a technology and marketing relationship with Metrowerks to provide developers an integrated development environment for creating content for Sprint Third Generation, Java technology-enabled handsets. Sprint announced that CodeWarrior Wireless Studio 7, Professional Edition, which is planned to ship later this week, will include out-of-the-box support for Sprint’s 3G-enabled phones and programming interfaces (APIs).

ZapMed announced the new ZapBill version 3.2 with New Patient Indexes for faster patient selection. In version 3.2 they added full time indexes instead of sorting the files so you won’t have any delay in selecting patients from the patient list or rounds list. This is a free upgrade.

GoAmerica, Inc. and VoiceStream announced that GoAmerica will include VoiceStream’s GPRS (General Packet Radio Services) wireless data network in its offering for the enterprise, allowing corporate customers to benefit from greater speed and functionality it provides. GoAmerica expects to offer Go.Web and its Mobile Office product suite on GPRS in the second half of this year.
