Handspring, Inc. announced the availability of the Treo 180 and 180g to customers in Malaysia. Treo can be purchased for RM 2549.00 at selected mobile outlets and IT retail stores nationwide at launch.

Palm, Inc. and PHT Corporation, an eClinical Trials and mobile clinical data capture company, announced that PHT Corporation has purchased 3,000 Palm m500 handheld computers. Additionally, PHT Corporation has agreed to purchase approximately 13,000 more Palm m500 handhelds over the course of this calendar year. PHT Corporation serves the biopharmaceutical industry and provides eClinical Trial technology that is used by some of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world.
Worldwide, patients and investigators, such as doctors or nurses, will use the Palm handhelds to record data collected in clinical trials. The handhelds are configured by PHT to collect information for the trial in a way that makes data collection easy and convenient for patients and doctors. The configured handhelds are referred to as Esendant LogPads by PHT during the trials. Patients answer questions and enter requested information and symptoms as they occur. After completing their report, patients or doctors attach a modem and send the collected data back to PHT’s StudyServer, where authorized personnel can view and analyze the information securely over the Web via Esendant StudyWorks, PHT’s Web-based electronic data capture and management product.

Developers using Impronto Simulator can test and configure applications without investing in costly hardware before deploying them on Bluetooth devices.

Extended Systems, Inc. and DataViz, Inc. announced a licensing agreement in which Extended Systems has integrated DataViz’s document conversion technology. This integration allows delivery of email attachments to Palm OS handhelds through Extended Systems’ recently announced XTNDConnect Server Professional Edition (PE) version 3.0. With the inclusion of this technology, Palm OS handheld users are able to access Microsoft Word, Excel, and other files sent to them as email attachments.

Palm, Inc. announced that Mac users can now download the final English version of Palm Desktop 4.0 for Mac. Palm developers, such as FileMaker, are supporting the new release with updated versions of their software. The new Palm Desktop software offers native Mac OS X support, improved handheld-to-desktop synchronization, vCard and vCal support, and the ability to use multiple languages.

thinkDevice Company announced the first shipment of Q-pad for Handspring Visor Edge and Palm Vx. The Q-Pad is a keyboard built into a slim leather case about the size of an ordinary PDA leather case. The Q-Pad has a PDA attachment mechanism on the inside of the leather case and the keyboard on the other inside of the leather case. The PDA attachment side also has a spring-loaded hinge that flips out to become approximately a 40-degree viewing stand for the PDA when placed on the desk.

Handspring, Inc. announced nationwide retail availability of its Treo 180 communicators. The company is shipping Treo 180 nationwide to select Best Buy, Staples, and CompUSA stores. Treo 180 is already for sale at regional retailers Fry

Pendragon Software released two applications that will enable users to create and display picture calendars for Palm OS handheld devices that are integrated with the built-in Date Book. Calendars have a familiar wall-calendar design and can be used as an interface for the built-in handheld Date Book. Users can view scheduled appointments or click through to the Date Book from their personalized calendar.
