Palm, Inc. advanced a corporate milestone of creating two well-capitalized, leading, high-growth companies, with the appointment of a founding board of directors for PalmSource, Inc., the Palm OS subsidiary of Palm, Inc. Eric Benhamou, chairman of the board of PalmSource, Inc. as well as chairman and chief executive officer of Palm, Inc., and David Nagel, PalmSource president and chief executive officer, will be joined on the board by Satjiv S. Chahil, Robert J. Finocchio, Jr., and Jean-Louis Gassee.

Air2web announced that its wireless platform is now available for purchase by federal government agencies through Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC)’s GSA IT Schedule. SAIC, a provider of IT and telecommunications technology to federal agencies, has entered an agreement with Air2Web in which SAIC’s Telecommunications Access Program (SAIC/TAP) can resell Air2Web’s Mobile Internet Platform.

Palm Infocenter has posted news that Samsung is demonstrating a new smartphone at CommunicAsia2002 in Singapore. According to the post, the device is called the Bluechip. It has a clamshell shape, a color screen, and hardware buttons on one side and the Graffiti area, rocker switch, and telephone dial pad on the other.

Outlook customers using KeyContacts instead of the Palm OS Address Book application will be able to synchronize 40 additional Contacts fields, including all phone numbers, all addresses, full name, job title, assistant’s name, birthday, anniversary, spouse and children’s names, and more. KeyContacts also supports over 250 categories. Because a contact on the handheld can now have multiple categories associated with it, a salesperson, for example, can store a new lead under multiple, customized categories like “New Leads” and “New York Contacts.”

Mazingo.net and Pocket PC Films have joined forces to debut a new subscription service for fans of classic television. The new channel will update daily with fresh episodes of more than 5 classic television shows including Dragnet, Andy Griffith, Beverly Hillbillies, Dick Van Dyke, and One Step Beyond. New episodes of each show will rotate daily. With this new service, fans of classic TV shows can watch their favorite episodes on their PDAs. Once subscribed, fresh episodes will appear automatically every day when the user synchronizes their handheld device.
