Bachmann Software introduced PrintBoy Anywhere, the latest version of its PrintBoy software. PrintBoy Anywhere is designed to allow Palm OS users to print their business-critical information by selecting their wireless method of choice and sending their data to the printer. Whether the users work in an environment supporting Bluetooth, 802.11b (also known as Wi-Fi), have modem access, or infrared, PrintBoy Anywhere allows them to produce their data to the printer of their choice.

Chapura, Inc. will demonstrate its newest handheld software products, KeyContacts 1.0 and Cloak 2.0. This will be Chapura’s first public demonstration of KeyContacts software. KeyContacts is designed to give Microsoft Outlook users a way to access virtually all of their detailed contact information through their Palm OS based handhelds and keep this information organized the same way in both places.

VIASYS Healthcare Inc.’s Neuro Care Division announced the introduction of SNAP, a monitoring tool using handheld computer technology. SNAP is a single-channel EEG device that transforms a Handspring Visor handheld PDA into an EEG monitoring tool for tracking anesthesia’s effect on brain activity. As a supplement to monitoring hemodynamic changes and patient reaction to stimuli, SNAP enables anesthesia professionals to measure the effects of anesthesia on EEG in real time. SNAP is unique because it uses both the low- and high-frequency components of the EEG signal. A derived EEG measurement, the SNAP Index indicates the patient’s brain activity level, which is processed for display in a time-based trend.

Palm Infocenter has some first impressions of the Kyocera 7135 Smartphone. Barton Gellman spent about an hour with a Kyocera 7135 at TechX NY and says, “I found a lot to like and very little not to like. If it holds up to real-world testing, this is easily going to be the strongest offering, for my money, to hit the market this year.”

CNET News.com reports Palm has reported a loss of $27 million for its fourth quarter, or 5 cents per share, on revenue of $233 million. Palm also named Todd Bradley, president of its hardware unit, as that group’s CEO.

Rococo Software was commended along with five other companies at Bluetooth Congress for its efforts to bring practical and useful Bluetooth applications to market. From the six companies commended, the Bluetooth SIG awarded VODAFONE SWEDEN and ANOTO with the Bluetooth Congress Award for demonstrating unique new revenue opportunities for operators through Bluetooth messaging. Other companies in the running for the award were 3COM, INVENTEL, and TOSHIBA.

With a focus on data-centric devices vs. voice-centric devices in the enterprise, Palm is delivering mobile communication solutions that help businesses increase productivity and responsiveness by keeping their workforces connected while on the go.
