PDAMill has released Traffic Mania for Pocket PCs. Traffic Mania is a puzzle game wherein the goal is to free your car from traffic jam by moving other cars out of the way. In addition, PDAMill is offering a 50% discount on Snails when you purchase any other title, and they’re also hosting a Snails level design competition.

This palmOne update corrects incompatibilities discovered between third-party desktop Personal Information Managers (PIMs) and Tungsten E, Tungsten T3, Zire 71 and Zire 72 handhelds. In addition, the update includes several smaller code adjustments and solutions.

Eastman Kodak has introduced several new projects that apply the company’s knowledge of imaging, optics and color science to electronic screens for displaying information in a variety of forms. Those include a cutting-edge system that shows three-dimensional images without glasses or other headgear; screens for consumer electronics made on flexible sheets of film, instead of glass; and components for laser projection televisions and related products.

A House of Representatives committee said that it has scheduled a vote on bills related to spyware and piracy next week. The Judiciary committee plans to meet Wednesday to consider the Internet Spyware Prevention Act and the Piracy Deterrence and Education Act.

Case Western Reserve University of Cleveland, using technology from Radvision, has initiated the first phase in an ambitious project to deliver visual communication and video conferencing service to meeting rooms, classrooms, desktops in computer labs, and soft endpoints for students’ laptops throughout the university network. During the fall semester, Case expects that 200 classrooms, meeting rooms, and student end points will be online and communicating in a live video network. By mid-2005, when the service is fully deployed, Case plans to support thousands of devices.

IBM is recalling some 553,000 notebook computer adapters sold worldwide because they can overheat and pose fire and shock hazards. IBM is not aware of any injuries caused by the 56-watt AC power adapters but has received at least six reports of overheating, which can damage the circuit board.

WinZip Computing recently revealed that Version 9.0 of its popular WinZip file compression program is vulnerable to a variety of security attacks. The company has released a “Service Release 1” to address the security problems.

The first products certified to support Wi-Fi Protected Access 2, the latest wireless security technology, were announced by the Wi-Fi Alliance. The Wi-Fi Alliance says WPA2 is a big improvement on earlier wireless security standards, such as Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP), which hackers have found easy to circumvent. It includes Advanced Encryption Standard, which supports 128-bit, 192-bit and 256-bit keys. Because WPA2 is compatible with WPA, companies that have already implemented WPA can upgrade to the new standard in stages.

MessageLabs, a provider of email security services, will use Symantec’s Brightmail filtering technology as part of its own antispam service, the company said Wednesday. The Brightmail technology includes at its heart a probe network of more than 2 million spam traps, and offers non-English language filters and signature-based filtering that eliminates the false-positive readings associated with keyword filters, or Bayesian filters.
