Sybase iAnywhere announced the general availability of RSS features for its AvantGo mobile Internet service. Air travelers starved for in-flight Internet access may soon find solace, thanks to a Colorado company that wants to offer Wi-Fi service aloft. AirCell said Monday that it plans to use a newly acquired radio spectrum license to offer “affordable” broadband service aboard commercial airplanes. Formed in 1991, the company already sells satellite-based voice and data services to the general aviation sector, primarily the corporate jet set.

Chinese computer supplier Lenovo has denied a report that it is planning to stop offering Linux on its range of PCs and laptops. On Friday, CRN reported that Frank Kardonski, Lenovo’s worldwide product manager for its 3000 series, had indicated that Linux support was being dropped. But Lenovo made strenuous efforts on Monday to set the record straight, emphasizing that Kardonski provided incorrect information to CRN and that the company plans to continue to offer Linux on ThinkPads.

The president and co-CEO of Research In Motion, maker of BlackBerry devices, warned the industry Monday that allowing people unlimited wireless data use will have a devastating effect on wireless innovation. In a keynote address given at GlobalComm, a telecommunications trade show here, Mike Lazaridis told attendees that carriers need to be very careful how they roll out wireless Internet services.

The new handwriting recognition software incorporates features that take advantage of new options available in Windows Mobile devices.
