BlackBerry maker Research In Motion won a second victory in a key UK patent lawsuit that had threatened the future of BlackBerry’s email service in Britain. London’s Court of Appeal backed a High Court ruling from a year ago that Ontario, Canada-based RIM had not infringed a patent held by Luxembourg company InPro Licensing Sarl which related to how portable computers surf the Internet. It ruled that intellectual property licensor InPro’s patent is not valid and should be revoked, bringing an end to the potential threat to the BlackBerry email service that is used by hundreds of thousands in Britain.

For years, Handango has been offering “Download Protection.” For about $5 bucks per product, you can come back at any time and redownload your purchases. Until recently, they haven’t been enforcing that. When you purchase a product, Handango allows you to download it at time of purchase, or as many times as needed for 30 days after purchase. After that, if you want to download your purchased title again, you have to purchase Download Protection for $4.99 PER PRODUCT. If you don’t purchase Download Protection at the time of purchase, and you want to redownload a file you’ve purchased after your 30 day grace period has expired, Handango will no longer allow you to do it… unless you purchase Download Protection for $6.99 (or $2.00 more that what they would have charged you at purchase).

Several sites are reporting that Microsoft will officially unveil Windows Mobile 6 at the 3GSM trade show in Barcelona next Monday. Code-named Crossbow, Windows Mobile 6 will sport a new slightly tweaked interface, new enterprise features, and several usability improvements, including: HTML email, the email client now includes one-touch access to common functions (i.e. delete, reply), a new “ribbon” UI for the Calendar, the ability to edit Office documents on smartphones, Windows Vista synchronization with Windows Mobile Device Center, and more. In addition, Microsoft have also renamed the various editions of Windows Mobile. The Smartphone Edition becomes Windows Mobile Standard, Pocket PC Phone becomes Windows Mobile Professional, and Pocket PC becomes Windows Mobile Classic.

The investors and founders of YouTube received hundreds of millions of dollars in Google shares as a result of the deal between the two companies late last year, according to new documents. The big payout was revealed Wednesday in a regulatory filing Google made with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The paperwork offered a more detailed account than previously disclosed of the sale’s beneficiaries.
