Trend Micro has announced the latest version of its mobile device security solution. The release of Trend Micro Mobile Security 5.0, with data encryption and authentication, mitigates mobile security challenges such as security breaches and data leakage while allowing enterprise administrators to manage security for handheld devices from a single console. A remote and mobile workforce utilizing mobile applications on their handhelds are at risk for losing confidential and sensitive information critical to their companies. Mobile applications such as push e-mail, customer relationship management, and field service automation boost convenience and productivity, but make data vulnerable.

Trend Micro Mobile Security 5.0 features new data encryption and authentication capabilities that will protect the mobile device’s content in case it is lost or stolen. Data on devices that do not comply with policies can be wiped out by administrators. The anti-malware features block viruses, worms, Trojans and SMS text message spam. Built-in firewall and Intrusion Detection System (IDS) protects against hackers, intrusions and denial-of-service attacks.

ByteRunner Technologies announced the release of a new product: the USB 2.0 Display Adapter. This adaptor enables users to connect an additional monitor or projector to any computer that has a USB 2.0 port. Desktop computer owners will find that adding an extra monitor via their USB connection is far easier than opening up the computer chassis in order to install an internal video card. The adaptor is also perfect for laptop users who don’t have the option of changing video cards. Once the installation is complete, there’s no need to deal with a function key to swap a second monitor as with traditional video splitters.

Corsoft announced expansion of its Warden mobile security software for all devices operating on Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6.0, which include Pocket PCs and Smartphones. The company expanded their software offering in response to recent statistics revealing that almost one out of three handheld electronic devices are lost each year, and that 90 percent of mobile devices do not have enough data protection to withstand an attack by hackers.

Warden offers two levels of protection. The local lock, enabled while the device is in possession of its owner, provides “in case of emergency” options, including contacts, allergies, medications, and other health information, as well as an option to place an emergency 911 call. It can help the device owner survive an emergency, in case he or she is unable to communicate at that time.
