
America Online announced Wednesday that Netscape Communications co-founder Marc Andreessen will become chief technology officer once AOL’s acquisition of Netscape closes in early spring. In a phone interview, Andreessen says that he plans to help develop America Online’s AOL Anywhere strategy of bringing America Online services to handheld computers and other devices.

WizardWorks, a subsidiary of GT Interactive Software Corp. is releasing a new line of entertainment software for Windows CE compatible handheld PCs under the product line of Games to Go! The first five titles will be released in early March for a suggested retail price of $19.99 each.

Pendragon Software Corporation released version 1.5 of its InfoRover technology designed to bring news and Web content to the popular Palm Computing platform of handheld devices. InfoRover software conveniently downloads news and Web content from the Internet to a PC, and formats the content for viewing on Palm Computing devices.

Novatel Wireless Inc. announced that it has formed an alliance with Casio Inc. to deliver a Cellular Digital Packet Data modem cradle attachment for Casio’s E-10 and E-11 Cassiopeias.

CNN has this review from InfoWorld on Compaq’s new Palm PC. The Aero 2100 includes a 256-color thin-film transistor screen with reflexive technology that uses ambient light to improve visibility.

News.com reports that Palm Computing will release the Palm V and Palm III X on Monday. CompUSA has aleady begun to take orders for both devices. According to News.com, CompUSA will sell the Palm V for $449.95, and the Palm III X for $369.95.

PC Week says that Palm Computing will not comment on a final release date for the upcoming Palm V. Sources tell PC Week Online that the new, slimmed-down handheld device will be available in the second quarter.
