iMac non-availability

We attempted to buy an iMac through retail outlets in Princeton, NJ today. Both CompUSA and Best Buy reported that the iMacs had been discontinued pending new Apple models and that they had no stock available nor any ETA for new stock. We did place an order with PC Connection which reported over 70 purple and 40 orange iMacs in stock (but no other colors).

MemoWare and The Lending Library have united their resources to expand their collection of reference, fiction, and literature documents for Palm OS devices and Windows CE devices. Over 350 documents from The Lending Library have been added to the 1,800+ documents in MemoWare’s archives to result in a collection of over 2,200 total documents.

Riverbed Technologies announced MobileArchitect, a graphical design tool that accelerates the development of PalmOS and Windows CE mobile systems for use in enterprise deployments. MobileArchitect begins shipping May 3, 1999 for a suggested list price of $1795 per developer seat.

RichReader

Sharware author Michael Arena announced the avalability of RichReader, a document reader application for Palm Computing Platform. This program is able to display richly formatted text from any word processor that can create Rich Text Format (RTF) files. RichReader can also read plain documents (without formatting codes) stored in standard AportisDoc format.

New version of MultiMail

Actual Software announced the latest release of the MultiMail Conduit Pack for the Mac. This new release now includes support for Outlook Express as well as Eudora PRO/Lite. Numerous other enhancements are also included. The Mac Conduit supports Hotsyncing with both the built-in email on your Palm as well as MultiMail PRO. You can purchase the Mac Conduit by itself for $29.95 or purchase it along with MultiMail PRO for $59.95. If you have already purchased the MultiMail Mac Conduit, the update to the latest version is a free upgrade.

Qualcomm’s new chip

News.com says that Qualcomm is developing a semiconductor that would allow cellular phones and handheld computers to be controlled by a single microprocessor. The chip uses code for CDMA and Windows CE. This will not affect the development of the pdQ Smartphone, Qualcomm’s cellular phone based on the Palm operating system.
