Possible cooperation

CNET reports that Symbian and Palm, Inc may soon begin discussing further technological cooperation. The article suggests this move could lead to a strong rivalry with Microsoft’s Pocket PC operating system. Symbian CEO Colly Myers is quoted as saying, “Since Palm has been busy, we have not had a chance to talk about a further alliance, but we will, in the near future, talk about it.”

Handheldmed.com redesigned

Handheldmed, Inc. announced the launch of the redesigned handheldmed.com Web site. The site is designed to deliver medical point-of-care applications and content for Palm, Windows CE, EPOC, and Psion wireless devices. As part of the launch they are offering a promotion that provides physicians and other healthcare professionals with Patient Tracker and an electronic version of the Merck Manual at no cost to registered users.

Find Engine for Palm VII

GuruNet Corporation announced the availability of the GuruNet instant information Find Engine on the Palm OS platform. According to the press release, Palm VII and Palm.Net users will be able to enter text into GuruNet’s Find Engine and receive relevant information on the topic.

Equal time

We believe in equal time. In response to our July 10 posting of PK Entertainment’s announced creation of SinPalm.com, a new, free adult entertainment portal for Palm OS and Pocket PC users, Jim McConnell has informed us of a new product from PalmsUp, a new independent marketer of primarily Christian software for the Palm OS platform. Their initial product is a beta version of a Prayer Journal called PrayerPal. The software allows you to log prayer requests by entering the name, request, and date the prayer is begun. No Web site was available, but the software can be downloaded from PalmGear.

IT managers cautioned

TechWeb News reports that analysts at Giga Information Group are cautioning corporate IT managers seeking a standard-issue PDA to plan now but to hold off on widespread deployment. The analysts believe it’s too soon for large companies to adopt any single PDA technology as a standard across the enterprise.

New Pocket PCs

PDA News has an article on the buzz being generated by the Taiwanese OEM-manufacturer Palmax. Rumor has it, the company has two new products that may soon make their debut in the United States. One is the P7M, a grayscale Pocket PC which should retail at around $200, and the second one is the Palmax PD-500C, a color unit with 32MB of RAM, a Compact flash slot, and MP3 and video capabilities.

New software from IQMax

IQMax announced its development of two new software applications known as the IQReader and the IQCard. The software allows users of PDAs to securely access and store large amounts of information. It also extends the device’s processing power.
