How to build your own robot

Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute Web site has more detailed informaiton on The PalmPilot Robot Kit. The site documents the complete construction plans and software. It also has photographs and video of the robot, which can drive itself around on flat surfaces using optical range sensors to sense nearby obstacles and walls.

New products from Symbol

CNET News.com reports Symbol Technologies has unveiled a new line of rugged handheld computers for factory employees, soldiers, and postal workers who need wireless Web access. The new products include the Symbol SPT 1700, based on the Palm operating system, the Symbol PPT 2700 with Pocket PC software, and the Symbol PDT 7500, which is available in Windows CE and DOS versions.
