
AvantGo, Inc. reported revenues for its first quarter ended March 31, 2001. Revenues for the quarter were $7.3 million, representing a 340% increase over revenues of $1.7 million for the same quarter last year, and an 11% increase over the fourth quarter of 2000. Gross margins increased to 80%, up from 77% in the fourth quarter of 2000.

Versaly Games, Inc. announced it has partnered with Fictionwise.com to allow Versaly subscribers to download short fiction ebooks to their mobile phones.

Targus Inc. announced the USB Charge-Sync Cable for use with the Palm V. The cable serves the functions of both a USB/Serial cable and AC/DC adapter.

Pall Corporation announced a downloadable pocket show guide for SEMICON Europa 2001, April 23-28, in Munich, Germany. The pocket guide provides complete exhibitor listings and booth numbers, along with conference highlights, a complete floor map, and time schedules. The pocket guide can be downloaded for free and will work on Palm or Visor units. It is a beamable file and can be shared from one handheld device to another.

Digital Consulting & Software Services, Inc. has developed the Clinical Experience Logging System (CELS), designed to streamline data management for physician assistant programs. The CELS program allows students to enter data as their clinical experiences happen, managing the data quickly with their PDAs.

AppForge, Inc. announced the introduction of an entry-level “Personal Edition” of their programming platform. The Personal Edition is specifically designed for hobbyists, enthusiasts, and neophytes and contains many of the features of other AppForge Editions such as support for graphics, serial port communications, and Palm OS Extended Library calls.

Michael Compeau, Cutting Edge Software’s vice president of business development and planning, is scheduled to demonstrate the new HandEra 330 device live on TechTV’s April 24th Screen Savers program. The program will air beginning at 4:00 p.m. (eastern), 7:00 p.m. (pacific). During this program, Mr. Compeau will also demonstrate a pair of ImagiProbes from ImagiWorks, Inc. These probes enable researchers, students, scientists, etc. to collect data directly into Palm OS-based devices. The data can then be analyzed in Cutting Edge Software’s Quicksheet spreadsheet application.

At eWEEK’s Rumor Central, merger buzz was in the air. According to columnist Spencer F. Katt, there’s a rumor going around that Palm itself could be acquired, possibly by Sony.

The nice folks at Card Access recently gave us some insight into their Springboard modem modules. Their Thinmodem Plus module contains both a modem as well as 8MB of Flash RAM, is flash upgradeable (meaning that if new features are added to the modem, it can be upgraded), and, of course, no batteries are required. Interestingly, the company is also coming out with an Audible book-on-module player in May.
