Motorola, Nokia scrap smartphone plans

The Register reports that Palm has confirmed that planned smartphones from Nokia and Motorola will not appear. According to the Register, Motorola planned to release a tri-band GSM smartphone by early next year. Palm’s collaboration with Nokia would have seen the Palm UI running on Symbian’s core OS.

Powered Up Awards

Palm announced the Powered Up Awards program. The program is designed to recognize innovation in the Palm OS developer community and honor developers of the best Palm OS based solutions. Each quarter, a panel of judges selected from leaders in the Palm OS community will choose one overall “best in show” winner and four category winners, one in each of the following categories: enterprise, productivity, leisure and entertainment, and student developers.

PalmSource postponed

Palm, Inc. announced it has postponed next month’s PalmSource 2001 developer conference in the wake of the country’s tragic events last week. PalmSource was scheduled for Oct. 23-26 at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, California. Palm plans to reschedule the event for later this year or early next year and will announce further details as they become available.
