


FileMaker unveiled FileMaker Mobile 2 Companion for Palm OS, new software to transfer and synchronize data between FileMaker Pro 5.5 v2 databases on desktop computers and Palm OS handhelds.

DataViz, Inc. announced a new Add-On Kit for Documents To Go Professional Edition. The updated Add-On Kit incorporates a new handheld application, Pics To Go, as well as SmartChart Technology. The Add-On Kit comes free with the purchase of Documents To Go Professional Edition.

PalmSource, Inc., the Palm OS subsidiary of Palm, Inc. announced it is providing its vast development community with compatibility tools to ensure that existing software programs run smoothly on Palm OS 5. The Palm OS 5 beta will be previewed at the PalmSource Conference and is the next major Palm OS release that supports ARM-compliant processors from Intel, Motorola, and Texas Instruments.

A new strategy for driving rapid innovation into the mobile computing industry will be outlined by David Nagel, president and chief executive officer of the Palm OS subsidiary of Palm, Inc. In his keynote address at the PalmSource conference, Nagel also will preview the Palm OS 5 operating system beta and highlight the latest licensee and developer innovations. In addition, the subsidiary announced its new name: PalmSource, Inc.

Key improvements in Palm OS 5 include: enhanced security to keep sensitive data private, Palm OS 5 offers strong 128-bit systemwide data-encryption services based on the standard RC4 encryption algorithm from RSA Security. In addition, end-to-end security is provided through Secure Socket Layer (SSL) services for email, Web browsing, and online transactions; multimedia, the ability to record sound and play CD-quality digital, and new selectable color themes will let users customize devices; and wireless, in addition to current support for WAN and Bluetooth, Palm OS 5 supports 802.11b for connections to wireless Local Area Networks.

At PalmSource, Electric Pocket Limited introduced two new wireless messaging applications for Palm OS handhelds. The first, Mailer, is a POP3 email application that offers a multi-account email engine to enable users to receive only the email messages needed. The second, Pixer, enables users to send annotated picture messages and photographs from a Palm OS handheld.

At PalmSource, Trust Digital LLC is unveiling its new Secure Card application designed to encrypt data stored on an expansion memory card.
