
AvantGo, Inc. announced that it is expanding the online distribution of its AvantGo Pylon solutions through Handango. AvantGo Pylon solutions are designed to enable enterprises to access their custom Lotus Notes applications, email, schedules, contacts, tasks and notes on Pocket PC and Palm OS devices, even when outside of wireless coverage.

CNET News.com has an article on Philips’ ProntoLite. According to the article, the maximum operating distance depends on the infrared ports of the handheld and the device, but the typical distance is 10 feet to 13 feet. The article also says Philips and Palm are working on an extension module to expand the reach of infrared ports on PDAs.

Palm Boulevard has an article on IDC research that finds younger age groups tend to be early adopters of a variety of technologies. The article discusses the results of a survey of more than 1,700 members of IDC’s Mobile Advisory Council that show younger users have a clear migration plan for adopting new wireless technologies, depending upon the device.

Royal Philips Electronics announced the availability of ProntoLite personal remote-control software for Palm OS handhelds. ProntoLite is a specially designed version of the software found in the Philips Pronto product line of display-centric remote controls. These remotes are typically used to control complex home theatre systems with multiple and diverse components. ProntoLite software is designed to enable users to configure their PDAs to control up to 10 audio/visual (A/V) devices, such as TVs, VCRs, CD players, DVD players, or set-top boxes.

UTrackSys.com, LLC announced the release of Universal Tracking System version 1.2 for Palm OS. UTS is designed to keep tabs on nything that can be measured: time, expenses, calories, body weight, and even catch of fish. The new version offers additional features for more flexible analysis of tracking results. They also expanded the database customization options and enlarged built-in help system.

CNET News.com reports Palm is facing a class action lawsuit for misstating the number of colors that can be displayed by its Palm m130 handheld. According to the article, the suit charges that Palm “fraudulently, unfairly, deceptively and unlawfully” marketed its m130 handheld when it claimed the device could support 65,000 colors. Palm spokeswoman Marlene Somsak said the company plans “to fight the lawsuit aggressively.”

SplashData, Inc. announced an upgrade to SplashPhoto, its image viewer for Palm OS handhelds. SplashPhoto 3.0 now includes support for high resolution displays (such as the Sony Clie), 12-bit displays (such as the Handspring Treo), and viewing of JPEG images stored on external memory cards. The new version is available at an introductory price of $9.95.
