CE Software and Snapperfish

Mobility Electronics, Inc. announced that its Cutting Edge Software subsidiary has teamed with Snapperfish Ltd. to develop integrated email attachment solutions enabling Palm OS handheld users to receive attachments via email and view and edit those files in their native desktop format. The solutions are designed for mobile professionals who need to access and edit desktop computer files on their PDAs and those who regularly collaborate with office-bound colleagues while out in the field.

New Fossil watch with SPOT

Fossil, Inc. has licensed the Palm Operating system to produce a Palm Powered watch called the WRIST PDA with Palm OS. The Wrist PDA with Palm OS was announced in mid-November 2002 at COMDEX and was named “Best Of Mobile Devices” at the fall show. Now the company has announced a partnership with Microsoft to develop a new collection of watches incorporating Microsoft Smart Personal Objects Technology (SPOT). The new Fossil watch, powered by SPOT, and available this fall in three branded versions, will enable users to receive and display timely, customized Web content. The watch will provide consumers with instant access to personalized Web information and services broadcast over a new radio receiver solution developed by Microsoft and beamed to the watch.

Beatnik, Inc. and Metrowerks announced the availability of a Software Development Kit that enables developers to integrate Beatnik polyphonic audio into their applications. The Beatnik Audio Engine (BAE) allows developers to integrate high fidelity sound into applications requiring real-time audio for multimedia messaging, user alerts, game soundtracks, and special effects.

Handspring’s developer program

Handspring, Inc. introduced a new developer program designed to fuel development of wireless, business and consumer applications for its line of Treo communicators. The program will give Treo solution developers start-to-finish technical and marketing support for getting solutions quickly developed and delivered to customers worldwide. Through its free Treo developer solutions program, Handspring is supporting application development in three categories: horizontal business solutions such as email and VPN clients; vertical solutions such as those used in health care, legal, finance and real estate markets; and consumer solutions focusing on applications such as media players, instant messaging and games.

riteMail 2.0 available

Pen&Internet announced the commercial availability of riteMail 2.0 for Palm handhelds, including support for devices running Palm OS 5. This release debuts riteMail 2.0’s first mobile client, preceding the upcoming release of a new riteMail system. It will include unified note-taking between multiple platforms; provide advance editing, recognition, and smart printing of electronic ink on desktops; and form the basis for Advanced Notes Recognition (ANR).

Backdrop EZ 2.1 released

Twilight Edge Software announced version 2.1 of Backdrop EZ, its background wallpaper application for greyscale Palm OS devices. Features of the upcoming release include animated backgrounds, improved screen clarity, and limited support for 320×320 Sony Clie devices.
