
Schools and parents looking for innovative ways to enhance math skills of upper-elementary and middle school students now have a fun new tool available to them: Size It Up by Leading Step, Inc. Size It Up is a series of three games that are played on Palm OS handheld computers to help students identify and compare numbers and math operations.

Scanning fingerprints or irises to verify an ATM customer’s identity has yet to penetrate the U.S. banking market because of concerns about expense and privacy. Customers must be convinced that the technologies provide more benefit than the card-and-PIN system, which works well, said John Hall, spokesman for the American Bankers Association. The cards also serve functions beyond the ATMs, as debit cards and as advertising for the banks.

Research In Motion announced plans to provide BlackBerry Connect support for the new Nokia E60, Nokia E61, and Nokia E70 devices. The new Nokia Eseries devices announced by Nokia today are built on the Symbian operating system v9.1 and Series 60 3rd Edition software platform. BlackBerry Connect will enable customers to use their Nokia Eseries device in conjunction with BlackBerry wireless services, including support for both BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Internet Service.

Mobilatory.com announced the launch of Send to Phone 1.1, a free Web-based service for uploading music, ringtones, images and other data files into a cell phone. As uploading is done through a WAP protocol, the service eliminates the need for cables, Bluetooth, or infrared adapter. According to Vyacheslav Bogdanov, a software engineer and a creator of the service, “Send to Phone” is a digital window into the world of sounds and graphics for mobiles, which is free and open 24/7 for every cell phone owner.

One of the astronauts in training for an upcoming shuttle flight can operate a variety of power tools, is more limber than a gymnast, and has just one leg. Robonaut, which NASA hopes to place on a shuttle flight in about 18 months, is one of a series of robots the space agency is developing to assist humans in outer space. Others include Tendril, a robotic cable a centimeter in diameter that can snake into tight spaces and take pictures, and Scout, a four-wheel planetary rover, about the size of a golf cart, that will ferry astronauts around or carry their oxygen and other gear on planetary hikes.

At The Symbian Smartphone Show in London, DataViz announced a public preview of its mobile Microsoft Exchange Server ActiveSync enabled client, RoadSync, with support for select mobility features of Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 on Symbian OS. Based on the Exchange Server 2003 ActiveSync protocol licensed directly from Microsoft, RoadSync offers secure, wireless, direct synchronization of corporate Outlook email, attachments, calendar and contacts for non-Microsoft smartphones and mobile devices, such as the popular Symbian OS and UIQ-based Sony Ericsson P910 series.

Palm announced that its Palm Treo 650 smartphone is now available on the Hutch network in India. “The Treo 650 smartphone provides Hutch customers with increased mobility and a way to simplify their business and personal lives with an all-in-one device,” said Paul Blinkhorn, vice president for Palm Asia Pacific.

Forking out for mobile phone insurance could be a waste of money according to industry group BIBA. It’s warned consumers that the small print on some policies means that insurers won’t pay out even if phones are nicked. It also points out that with premiums of more than
